In-Memory OLTP –Part 3

Reviewing the AMR Tool Reports

AMR tool is to provide a easy way and single glance view to the tables or stored procedures which can be leveraged for In-Memory OLTP.

No matter how well we understand the database workload but its not easy to identify which object to move into this efficient engine.

AMR provided set of Management Data Warehouse analysis reports.Reports can be accessed from the report option in MDM database

Transaction Performance Analysis Overview Report

On this screen you can see there are two different hyperlinks under Table Analysis: Usage Analysis and Contention Analysis. Plus one hyperlink under Stored Procedure Analysis.  These hyperlinks identify the last time the data collector statistics where loaded.  Let me explore the AMR reports under each of these hyperlinks.

When I click on the Usage Analysis hyperlink under Table Analysis the following report is displayed in a query window:

The default report displays all the tables across all databases which are good candidate to use In-Memory OLTP.So,select the database which you are targeting for In-Memory OLTP

I choose AdventureWorks2012 as an example, and the report displays 2 object, the report has 4 section , the X Axis shows low/high gainers and Y Axis shows which are easy migrated and which require significant work to be migrated based on dependencies and other complexities (data type changes etc.)

Click on one of the table to see what details it shows, i clicked Address table

The report displays the table performance statistics over period of time the data collection happened.

Lets see the Usage Analysis hyperlink under Stored Procedure Analysis. The report will display stored procedure which are good candidate for migration to In-Memory OLTP

The report will show top 5 stored procedure by default , you can select the database and no of stored procedure are good candidate to be migrated to In-Memory OLTP.

Select one of the stored procedure to see further usage details on usage. The report will also display the list of tables being referenced from this stored procedure.
